The annual event, slated for 5 June, brought together stakeholders and environmental enthusiasts to chat about ways of ending plastic pollution. NEMA county director in Kirinyaga, Beatrice Wanjohi, urges more firms with the ability to recycle plastic to come up and take the product to end pollution, noting the role played by individuals in Kutus Town who cut used plastic to make brooms and ropes. He urged the public to take responsibility for ensuring a clean environment. Mwea East DCC, who represented the County Commissioner, assured NEMA of collaboration on the enforcement of the set rules. He further congratulated the county government on the effort to ensure the markets within the county are always clean. Kirinyaga County CEC for Environment James Mutugi reiterated that the environment a devolved function, and they will continue to enforce existing laws.
